PLANO, Texas (March 17, 2021) – Doritos debuted its #FlatMatthew campaign during the Super Bowl LV broadcast last month, starring one of the most dynamic and multidimensional stars around, Matthew McConaughey, and now the story continues with a collaboration with the legendary book series Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.

On social media, Doritos and Flat Stanley hinted at a collaboration during the Super Bowl, and now the two are officially announcing a very worthy cause. Created as a bedtime story for his sons, Jeff Brown’s beloved character Flat Stanley has been entertaining young readers for generations. Doritos is purchasing and donating over 13,000 copies of the celebrated Flat Stanley series from HarperCollins Children’s Books. The books will be donated to FirstBook.org, which aims to remove barriers to quality education for all kids by making high-quality books and educational resources more affordable to its member network of more than 500,000 educators, who exclusively serve kids in need.

With the inspiration of Flat Stanley in mind, Doritos leaned into a similar theme for its campaign that had McConaughey “flat” until he discovered new Doritos 3D Crunch, which helped the star regain his multidimensional self. The campaign will continue throughout 2021.

About Flat Stanley

The beloved character of Flat Stanley was created by Jeff Brown as a bedtime story for his two sons in 1964 and has been entertaining generations of readers ever since. Stanley Lambchop, aka “Flat Stanley,” was an ordinary boy until he woke up one morning and found that the bulletin board mounted above his bed had fallen on and flattened him. Stanley’s new size allows him to slide under closed doors, fly as a kite, and most importantly to fit inside an envelope and travel to locations via the Postal Service. Inspired by Stanley’s ability to be mailed to different locations, teachers everywhere have embraced the character and encouraged their students to draw their own Flat Stanley and mail him to a friend or pen pal. Over the years, Stanley has visited the White House, the Olympics, the Oscars, a U-2 spy plane, and the South Pole, just to name a few. Flat Stanley continues to inspire creativity and curiosity with his entertaining adventures. More than 28 million copies of Flat Stanley books have been sold, with translations into more than 10 languages. FLAT STANLEY® is a registered trademark of the Trust u/w/o Richard C.
